Bronze Star Presentation to WWII Veteran

 

PRESIDIO OF MONTEREY, Calif. – The Presidio of Monterey and Defense Language Institute will present the Bronze Star Medal to 94 year-old Pleasanton resident, George Carlson in a formal ceremony on the installation at 3:30 p.m. June 22 for his actions in World War II as a soldier in the 99th Infantry Division.

Army Announces Prescribed Burn Intent for 2017

 

PRESIDIO OF MONTEREY, Calif. – The Army has identified several areas at former Fort Ord for prescribed burning as part of its 2017 plan. These burns are required as an important part of the munitions cleanup of the former Fort Ord. The burns encourage recovery of the rare, threatened and endangered fire-dependent plant species. In addition, prescribed burns can reduce vegetation, which, in turn, reduces the risk of wildfire.

Army Announces Munitions Cleanup in Fort Ord National Monument

 

PRESIDIO OF MONTEREY, Calif. – After years of extensive investigation and evaluation, the U.S. Army, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, and California Department of Toxic Substances Control recently approved a munitions cleanup plan for the northern portion of the Bureau of Land Management (BLM)-managed lands within the Fort Ord National Monument. The Army is working with the BLM to ensure public safety and access during the cleanup.

Military Retiree Appreciation Day

 

PRESIDIO OF MONTEREY, Calif. – The U.S. Army Garrison, Presidio of Monterey, in conjunction with the Fort Ord Area Retiree Council, will host its annual Retiree Appreciation Day (RAD) at the Gen. Stilwell Community Center, Ord Military Community Saturday, June 3, 2017. The RAD is scheduled to begin at 8 a.m. with the formal program ending at 1:30 p.m.

Military Youth of the Year Winner

 

PRESIDIO OF MONTEREY, Calif. – Hailing from El Centro Naval Air Facility, Jessica Marin was named the California Military Youth of the Year by Boys & Girls Clubs of America at a Presidio of Monterey competition April 26 for her personal character and convictions. The Youth of the Year title is a prestigious honor bestowed upon an exemplary young person in recognition of leadership, service, academic excellence and dedication to live a healthy lifestyle.

Military Youth of the Year Competition

 

PRESIDIO OF MONTEREY, Calif. – The California State Military Youth of the Year competition, sponsored by the Boys & Girls Clubs of America, will be held at Presidio of Monterey on April 25-26. Fourteen contestants will compete for a $5000 scholarship and move on to the Pacific Regional competition.
