Army Announces Prescribed Burn Intent for 2018

PRESIDIO OF MONTEREY, Calif. – The Army has identified two areas at former Fort Ord for prescribed burning as part of its 2018 plan. These burns are required as an important part of the munitions cleanup of the former Fort Ord. The burns encourage recovery of rare, threatened and endangered fire-dependent plant species. In addition, prescribed burns remove vegetation, reducing the risk of wildfire.

Former Fort Ord Prescribed Burn Season Closes

PRESIDIO OF MONTEREY, Calif. – The Army's prescribed burn season for the former Fort Ord is now closed for 2017. The Army was able to conduct a prescribed burn (Units B and C) in the northern portion of the Fort Ord National Monument because the required combination of weather conditions, fuel moistures, and fire management resources met the burn prescription. The burn prescription was developed as part of the Army's commitment to minimize the impact of prescribed burns on the local community.
