MASS TRANSPORTATION BENEFIT/ TRANSPORTATION INCENTIVE PROGRAM
The Defense Language Institute Foreign Language Center (DLIFLC) and the U.S. Army Garrison, Presidio of Monterey (POM) are participating in the Federal Government’s Mass Transportation Benefit Program (MTBP) and Transportation Incentive Program (TIP).
What is it?
The MTBP/TIP provides reimbursement for mass transit commuting costs to and from work in order to reduce federal employees’ contribution to traffic congestion and air pollution and to expand their commuting alternatives.
What does this mean to the employees – military, civilian, and NAF—who are eligible? It means that you could be riding to work for free!
POM Bus Program Participants:
There is an important mandatory change to the POM bus program. All bus program participants, with a small number of exceptions, must come sign for their TRANServe debit card to continue participating in the program. Starting 01 Oct 12, the Department of Transportation requires that the Mass Transportation Benefit and Transportation Benefit Programs transition to an individual TRANServe debit card payment system. All program participants will be issued a debit card and must use the new debit card to purchase bus passes on a monthly basis. Participants will no longer sign for a bus pass, instead they will have to purchase the pass using the debit card.
The process is very easy.
- Step 1: Sign for the debit card
- Step 2: Activate the debit card (Click here for instructions)
- Step 3: Purchase the bus pass for the next month
Debit Cards will no longer be issued at Bldg. 614, Room 119 on the Presidio of Monterey. See below.
BUS PASS VENDING MACHINES
The first bus pass vending machine is ready for use in the POM Post Office Bldg 517 next to Einstein's Bagels. It is a black vending machine with a BUS PASS sign on the wall behind it. To find it, go in the Post Office door and look to your left front. It is across from the post office boxes on the left side wall. The Post Office door is open 24 hours a day 7 days a week. To use the vending machine, simply swipe your TRANServe debit card through the reader and wait for the bus pass to drop into the lower slot. A receipt will also be printed. You do not need to push any buttons or enter a PIN. Remember: only one bus pass can be purchased from the 10th of the month to the 9th of the following month.
A second bus pass vending machine is currently being installed inside Outdoor Recreation Bldg 228. The vending machine will be inside the building past the front desk on the left. Outdoor Recreation is open 9am -6pm on Monday - Friday and is closed 2pm - 3pm for lunch.
We are working with the DoD Center to get the third vending machine installed as quickly as possible. It will be placed in the lobby area of the main entrance to the DoD Center.
Effective immediately bus passes can no longer be purchased or signed for in Bldg 418. The only exception will be for people that have less than $125 on their debit cards. If you need to purchase a bus pass with your TRANServe debit card, do so at one of the vending machines. If you have not yet received a TRANServe debit card or wish to enroll in the program, please come to Bldg 614 Rm 119. Call 831-242-7590 before you come by.
